Piazza del Colosseo, Rome, 00184

The Basics

As the second most popular attraction in Italy after only the Vatican, the Colosseum hosts some 4 million annual visitors, meaning that long lines are nearly inevitable without a skip-the-line tour. Choose from a number of tours suited to any age or interest, such as a Colosseum underground tour that heads beneath the arena floor to explore a network of passages; a small-group guided tour of the third tier; or a night tour that offers an eery experience and relief from the daytime heat. Consider group tours, self-guided audio tours, or private tours to gain an understanding of this well-preserved ancient Roman amphitheater and its historical importance.

Excellent story telling excurtion.
The guide was very interesting by explaining history as if he was telling a movie. We had more than what we expected. Pleasant experience.

Colosseum Underground Small Group Tour with Roman Forum & Gladiator Arena
Giuseppe really brought the Colosseum to life, making it easy to visualize what it must have been like for people and animals alike. The tour was well paced and the perfect balance between guided and independent time.
Highly recommend

Gladiator Gate and Arena Floor Special Access Colosseum Tour
The visit to the Colosseum was amazing! The guided tour with Siri (Sirena) was exceptional. She was very engaging and very knowledgeable. We were there during the excruciating heat wave but Siri did her best to direct her tour to spots and stops that minimized sun exposure. She did a great job in her delivering so much information and making ancient history sound fascinating. We really enjoyed this tour. No doubt the access to the gladiator/arena was completely worth it. Highly recommend.
Our tour guide was great!...

Skip the Line: Colosseum Small Group Tour with Roman Forum & Palatine Hill
Our tour guide was great! We learned more than expected on historically contextualizing not just the Colosseum but the rise and fall of Ancient Rome and it’s connections to other great cities.
Colosseum Underground Night Tour - a MUST DO!

Colosseum Night Tour
We had a fantastic guide, Darius, who was also an archeologist. He did an excellent job providing insights into the design, building and purpose of each aspect of the Colesseum Underground. We did the standard Colosseum Tour during the day, which was nice but under a Super Moon and having the entire Colosseum practically to ourselves made for a very memorable evening. Don't miss this!
Great experience

Self-Guided Tour Colosseum Skip-the-Line Ticket
We met outside the colosseum, the flags weren’t easy to spot! Our guide, Julia, was excellent in explaining how it would work both at the colosseum and the Roman forum! A fantastic time had by all!

Vip Colosseum Under the Moon with Underground and Arena Access
This is absolutely a must-do. Being at the colosseum in the evening under the moonlight is a once in a lifetime experience. It is also great on very hot days as it is much cooler. The headphones did not work great if you were far from the guide but otherwise a very special, moving experience during a time when the Colosseum is not packed with a lot of other tourists. .
Engaging and thorough tour!

Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome Semi-Private Tour MAX 6 PEOPLE GUARANTEED
My husband and I really enjoyed this tour! Our guide Vasco was wonderful and very knowledgeable. We did this in the afternoon and also the Vatican tour with this company in the morning but I don’t suggest doing both in the same day (we did this as we only had one full day in Rome). My only recommendation for this tour would be to see the colosseum first followed by the Roman forum and palatine hill, we saw the colosseum last which was fine but we were exhausted from walking all day. Thank you!
Great tour

Great tour, friendly guide. Also really enjoyed seeing the underground parts of the Colosseum which we hadn’t seen on previous visits - highly recommend paying extra for this!

Skip the Line: Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill Tour
This tour saved a lot of time which is limited when visiting Rome. We walked into the Roman forum, Palatine Hill, and Colosseum with no wait and our entire time (3 hours) was all focused on seeing the sites we paid to visit. Our guide was knowledgeable about the sites.
Very good, would recommend

When to Get There

Since the Colosseum is most crowded during the middle of the day, begin or end your Rome tour with a visit first thing in the morning or just before last entry (which is an hour before closing time) in the late afternoon. Alternatively, choose a night tour for a unique, less crowded experience. Summer is the most popular time of year to visit, while the site receives fewer crowds in November through February, aside from the Christmas and New Year holidays.
